Vipers SC delivered a commanding performance to book their place in the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup with a 6-0 thrashing of Pajule Lions on Tuesday at St Mary’s Stadium.
Karim Watambala and Milton Karisa each struck twice, while Usama Arafat and Gusto Mulongo added a goal apiece as the holders underlined their title credentials with a ruthless display.
Vipers wasted no time asserting control. Watambala opened the scoring after just six minutes, drilling home from close range after being picked out by a long ball from Rogers Torach.
Pajule Lions thought they had a lifeline when Torach brought down Nathan Rwothomio in the penalty area, but the referee waved play on, allowing Vipers to maintain momentum.
The Venoms doubled their advantage when Nicholas Wadada delivered a teasing cross that Karisa controlled before laying it into Arafat’s path for a simple finish.
Wadada remained influential down the right flank, his delivery later ricocheting off the crossbar for Watambala to volley in from close range and extend the lead.
Karisa made it four on the stroke of halftime with a superbly curled free kick, leaving Pajule Lions with a mountain to climb.
Seven minutes after the restart, Karisa completed his brace. Set up by Arafat, he beat his marker before lifting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
Wadada capped off a dominant individual performance by surging forward once more and delivering a cross that Mulongo tapped in to complete the rout.
The emphatic victory sends Vipers SC comfortably into the last 16 as they continue their defence of the Uganda Cup crown in dominant fashion.
