Express FC cruised to maximum points with a statement 2-0 victory over KCCA FC in the Kampala derby under the lights of Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Thursday.
The Red Eagles, who suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to BUL in their opener, came into the game desperate for three points, as did their rivals KCCA FC, who stumbled against NEC FC.
Under the stewardship of former KCCA coach Morley Byekwaso, the seven-time league champions prevailed over the Kasasiro Boys thanks to second-half goals from Isaac Wagoina and Derrick Ddungu alias Rickman.
In the third minute, Express had a penalty claim after a foul on Wagoina in the box, but the referee waved play on.
Saidi Mayanja had his powerful strike hit the crossbar in the 34th minute.
Charles Lwanga was denied by Express goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya moments later after being fed by Sammy Ssebaduka.
Six minutes after the recess, Wagoina gave the Red Eagles the lead with a finisher’s strike.
Henry Wamala came close to doubling the home side’s lead but his effort, Mugolofa, hit the woodwork.
In stoppage time, Ddungu alias Rickman, who replaced Steven Yiga, put the seal on the victory when he beat Mugolofa at his near post to double Express’ advantage on his debut.
Byekwaso’s men are now in sixth position with three points from two matches, while KCCA are bottom-placed with no points from two games.
BUL Hit Four Past Kataka
Elsewhere, BUL FC thrashed Kataka 4-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Derrick Byabachwezi, with Simon Achidi scoring the other for Alex Isabirye’s men. Ali Sentamu found the consolation for the home side at Bukedea Comprehensive.
