    Uganda to be represented by nine sports disciplines at 2026 Commonwealth Games

    Uganda will make its 17th appearance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games due in Glasgow with the nation set to be represented by nine sports disciplines.

    Uganda will be represented by Athletics, 3×3 Basketball, Boxing, Track Cycling, Netball, Swimming, Para Swimming, Judo, and Para Powerlifting.

    Weightlifting is still pending final qualification and confirmation is expected by the end of May 2026.

    On Friday, the Commonwealth Games Chef de Mission, Mr. Godwin Kayangwe, met with heads of Federations to assess preparations. He stressed the need for all stakeholders to align and work together as Team Uganda, while urging federations to review the readiness of their athletes and support systems.

    He also called on federations to confirm any eligibility requirements with their respective International Federations in order to avoid any disappointments.

    At the 2022 Games, Uganda won five medals which included three golds and two bronze medals. The medals were won by Jacob Kiplimo who smiled to a 5000m and 10000m golds while his brother Victor Kiplangat won Uganda its first ever Marathon gold in the games history.

    Peruth Chemutai scooped bronze in the 3000m Steeplechase with the other bronze medal coming female boxer Teddy Nakimuli.

    In total, Uganda has won 58 medals in the Commonwealth Games from mainly athletics and about boxing 19 of these medals are gold while 16 are silver, and 23 are bronze
