Former SC Villa President Immanuel Ben Misagga has accused a group of individuals within SC Villa of undermining the club’s governance and mismanaging its resources.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday at Royal Suites, Misagga said he could no longer remain silent as what he described as a “clique” allegedly turns the record Ugandan champions into a personal enterprise.
Misagga spoke a day after the club’s Electoral Committee declared incumbent Hajji Omar Mandela president for another five-year term.
The former club boss criticized the leadership under Mandela, accusing it of manipulating the electoral process by introducing a nomination fee of Shs100 million, which he said discouraged competition.
Misagga also questioned the management of approximately Shs3.4 billion reportedly received from the Uganda National Roads Authority as compensation for Villa Park.
According to Misagga, the funds belong to the club but are allegedly held in fixed deposit accounts while supporters continue to struggle.
He was one of five aspirants — including Farouk Meywa, Denis Mbidde and Simeone Kawuma Bulezi — who did not return nomination forms before the Saturday deadline.
Misagga clarified that he is not seeking a return to the presidency but is instead advocating for governance reforms at the club.
He called for the reinstatement of club statutes previously ratified by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations and the establishment of a corporate governance structure that would give supporters a voice in the club’s decision-making.
Misagga said his campaign is aimed at “rescuing SC Villa” and restoring transparency and accountability in the club’s leadership.
He also stressed that he has no personal grudge with Mandela but questioned the club’s current financial capacity, noting that the team now struggles in the transfer market.
Misagga cited his tenure as president, saying he was able to sign striker Umar Kasumba for Shs36 million, compared to the current situation where the club reportedly cannot afford a player valued at Shs20 million.
The former club president further accused FUFA of siding with Mandela after the federation allegedly failed to respond to a petition seeking its intervention in the club’s electoral process.
