FUFA has dismissed a petition filed by Police FC challenging Lugazi FC’s victory in the round of 32 of the 2026 Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Police FC had contested Lugazi’s 2-1 win registered on February 27, 2026 at the Kiira Road Police Arena, arguing that Lugazi fielded an ineligible player, Kyebatala Umar.

The law enforcers claimed that Kyebatala had earlier featured for non-league side Football Class Room during the preliminary rounds of the same competition, which they said contravened the FUFA competition rules that prohibit a player from representing more than one club in the same edition of the tournament.

However, the FUFA Disciplinary Panel ruled on Friday that the relevant regulation cited by Police FC only applies to players officially registered with FUFA for the competition.

According to the panel, registration for players in the Stanbic Uganda Cup begins at the round of 64 stage, meaning the rule barring players from representing two teams does not apply to matches played in the preliminary rounds.

The panel therefore determined that Kyebatala Umar’s earlier participation for Football Classroom did not violate the competition rules since it occurred before the official registration stage.

Based on this interpretation, the FUFA Disciplinary Panel concluded that Kyebatala was eligible to feature for Lugazi FC in the round of 32 fixture against Police FC and dismissed the petition.

The ruling confirms Lugazi FC’s progression to the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, where they will face NEC FC.
