The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Interim Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to take boxing in the country to the next level.

On Friday, September 10, 2026, stakeholders converged at UMA Lugogo, inside Madhivani Hall, to hear from the committee about its plans towards the future of the game.

The team, led by Olympian Sam Rukundo, has promised a new and vibrant picture destined for success in the boxing space. For a start, the National Trials, with support from Friends of Boxing (FOB), are scheduled for September 19th to 21st of the same month.

The trials are set to be held at Gozalo Sports Arena in Makerere where six boxers who will represent the country are to be selected.

“We are not discriminating anyone, every club is welcome to be part of the National Trials where we shall select the best boxers ahead of a continental championship in October,” Rukundo noted.

Frank Lulinda, the FOB Head of Marketing and Development revealed that they will sponsor six boxers selected from the trials.

“UBF Interim reached out to us, and we have given them the assurance that FOB is ready to extend a hand to the National Trials. As Friends of boxing we are to sponsor six boxers selectef from the trials to DR Congo.”

The final selected team will represent the country at the IBA Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship, slated for October 19th to November 1st, 2026, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kinshasa is set to become the action centre of continental boxing once again, playing host to the prestigious championship at the Stade des Martyrs Gym.

Zambia, Cape Verde, Kenya, South Africa and Morocco are among the countries that have confirmed participation in the prestigious tournament.

Outside the ring, IBA Africa will host official certification courses for Star-2 and Star-3 referees and judges.
