The group stages of the 2026 Buganda Kingdom organized football tournament, the Masaza Cup, are done and the eight quarterfinalists have been revealed.

Buddu, Kyaggwe, Gomba, Butambala, Bugerere, Busujju, Mawogola and Kyaddondo are the teams that have progressed to the last eight after a pulsating group phase.

    How They Qualified

Kyaggwe, Butambala and Buddu finished top of the Masengere, Bulange and Muganzirwazza groups respectively with 23, 18 and 19 points.

Mawogola finished second in Muganzirwazza with 18 points, while Kyaddondo ended their Bulange group campaign with 17 points. Gomba finished second behind Kyaggwe in Masengere with 19 points.

Bugerere and Busujju advanced as the two best third-placed teams, both finishing on 17 points.

    Big Names Bow Out

It is the end of the road for several traditional heavyweights. Last year’s winners Buweekula, two-time winners Ssingo, three-time champions Mawokota, as well as Bulemeezi, Buvuma, Ssese, Busiro, Buluuli, Kooki and Kabula have all bowed out of the prestigious competition.

    The quarterfinal pairings promise fireworks:

    •Kyaggwe vs Mawogola
•Buddu vs Gomba- A battle of giants. Three-time winners Buddu will entertain record five-time winners Gomba.

•Butambala vs Busujju- A neighbours’ derby for Butambala who have had a great campaign.
    •Bugerere vs Kyaddondo
