The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has dismissed claims that it played any role in the construction or supervision of Hoima City Stadium, contradicting recent remarks by State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang.
In a recent interview, Ogwang suggested that FUFA, through its leadership, is represented on the Local Organising Committee overseeing infrastructure preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.
He further alleged that the National Council of Sports had allocated funds to the federation to supervise the construction of Hoima City Stadium.
However, FUFA, speaking through its National Teams Manager Patrick Ntege, has strongly refuted the minister’s assertions.
“I am of the view that either the Minister did not get the facts or he is lying,” Ntege said.
“We have never been officially invited or requested to carry out any supervision, and there is no money that has ever been given to us as alleged.”
Ntege, who also serves on the infrastructure committee of the AFCON Local Organising Committee, emphasized that FUFA had no involvement in the stadium project from its inception to completion.
“We have never gone to Hoima to supervise that stadium. It was built from the word go up to the time it was finished without our involvement and input,” he added.
He further clarified that construction of the facility began before the establishment of the relevant AFCON committees, and even after their formation, FUFA was neither consulted nor engaged in overseeing the project.
The dispute comes in the wake of a recent report by the Confederation of African Football, which highlighted gaps at Hoima City Stadium that must be addressed before it can be approved as a venue for AFCON 2027.
